Spektrum for the First Time in Czech Trutnov – Kicking Off on Friday!

In 2024, the Spektrum Film Festival will celebrate its tenth edition in Świdnica and make its debut in Czech Trutnov, becoming an international, cross-border event. From October 11 to 13, the Czech and Polish audience at the Vesmir cinema can look forward to eight feature films and twenty short films (including short fictions, documentaries, and animations), along with meetings with creators, a concert, workshops, and other accompanying events.

In Trutnov, festival screenings will take place at the Vesmír cinema, which inaugurated its operations over 100 years ago on March 1, 1929. The venue has undergone renovations in recent years, and Spektrum will be one of the first major film events to mark its reopening in this new incarnation.

What's on the program?

On Friday, October 11, a special screening of the documentary film Velky finale PSO is scheduled, which was made using stop-motion technique. It tells the story behind the activities of a 100-member amateur Czech orchestra. After the screening, there will be a Q&A session with the director, Dominikiem Kalivodą, and the film team manager, Petrą Soukupovą.

The highlight of the Saturday program at Spektrum in Trutnov will be the screening of Amerikánka, directed by Viktora Tausa. It is a non-literal, sometimes even surreal story about the experience of living in a children’s home. “This title is unconventional, full of colors, and above all, emotions,” says Anna Jerhotová, the head of the Vesmír cinema. The screening will be preceded by a performance from a children’s theater group, presenting a live teaser of Amerikánka.

The program will also feature Polish cinema—Trutnov audiences will see Ultima Thule, a story about self-discovery, nature, and an unexpected friendship directed by Klaudiusza Chrostowskiego, as well as Next to Nothing, an exceptionally successful debut by Grzegorz Dębowskiego that surprises with its unconventional script centered around the character of a farmer, Jarek. Both screenings will be followed by discussions—with the director of Ultima Thule and the actor playing Jarek, Arturem
Paczesnym.
