The true story of Wanda Rutkiewicz, the first woman in the world and the first person from Poland to conquer the highest peaks on Earth – told in her own words. Wanda entered the male-dominated world of high-altitude expeditions uninvited and paid the ultimate price for it. The film’s director, herself a mountaineer, embarks on a journey to the Himalayas, following in Wanda’s footsteps. A key to the search is an audio diary of the heroine, found among piles of archival materials. Wanda disappeared 30 years ago, and her body was never found. Some claim she stayed in a Buddhist monastery. The film explores her life and the mystery surrounding her disappearance, featuring renowned climbers Reinhold Messner, Krzysztof Wielicki, and Carlos Carsolio, as well as close women in her life: her sister Janina Fies and manager Marion Feik.

About freedom and the search for one’s own path.

The documentary, constructed as an intimate record of her personal map of pain and fears, allows viewers to trace the events that may have ultimately convinced Wanda to cut herself off from the world — and never return to it.
